Flowers for Algernon (1966) follows the journey of Charlie Gordon, a man with an intellectual disability who undergoes a brain-altering procedure for heightened intelligence. My cover aims to capture his internal conflict as he adjusts to his newfound intelligence. The hands reaching toward him represent the imminence of his revelation; Charlie begins to understand the selflessness and cruelty of those around him. Moreover, the chords extending from his brain reflect the morally conflicting experimentation. His skeletal appearance reflects the torment of experimentation while hinting at its fatal consequences. The flowers are a reminder of his humanity as he cradles Algernon- a lab rat who underwent the same procedure.
